We attended the conference ‘Mineral resources and the energy sector’ organised by Cluergal, Xunta de Galicia in Vigo.

A) The Energy Transition cannot exist without critical minerals. B/ The Mining-Energy binomial was emphasised as a means of advancing the decarbonisation of the Galician economy while generating local wealth. 3/Galicia, with its geological wealth and renewable energy potential, is positioning itself as a key leader in ensuring European supply autonomy.

Galicia is one of the national leaders in renewable energy, and this transition requires raw materials, minerals such as silicon, which is necessary for all photovoltaic panels, and rare earths, which are necessary for manufacturing wind turbines and other components needed for the development of wind energy. Copper is also a very necessary material for all electrical installations because the energy transition we are experiencing is accompanied by the electrification of the economy
